ALCOHOL EXEMPTION CAMPAIGN MEETING

NO. OF PERSONS: 25
DATE: 03.11.2016
PLACE: Veramalai
PERIOD: 2 Days

PROJECT EXPLANATION:
The campaign emphasized the need for clear labeling of alcohol products, pointing out that while everyday food items like milk or juice require nutritional labels, alcohol remains exempt despite its serious health risks.

“Alcohol’s current exemption from food and drink labelling rules is absurd. Shoppers who buy milk or orange juice have sugar content and nutritional information right at their fingertips. But this information is not required when it comes to alcohol – a product not just fuelling obesity but with widespread health harms and linked to seven types of cancer.”

PROJECT IMPLEMENTATION – Health Impacts of Alcohol Abuse:
  • Loss of feeling in hands and feet
  • Brain damage and memory loss
  • Hallucinations and confusion
  • High blood pressure and enlarged heart
  • Irregular pulse and increased infection risk
